Child & Family Policy Lab
The Child & Family Policy Lab works to increase the safety, education, and economic stability of Georgia’s children and families through rigorous research and long-term partnerships with state agencies.

Our research-practice partnership conducts rigorous research using individual-level data from multiple state agencies to build, support, and improve evidence-based decision-making that serves vulnerable populations in Georgia. We apply quantitative methodological expertise to policy problems and apply a holistic approach to our work.
Our structure and model support the analysis of problems and solutions across agencies, families, lifetimes, and generations. By combining data and subject matter expertise across agencies with academic researchers, CFPL provides an innovative approach that prioritizes actionable research that can help improve people’s lives.

Our Initial Research Priorities

Who are the recipients across state social services? What are barriers to using or benefiting from these services? What are the impacts of using state social services and programs? Where are opportunities to support families’ awareness and use of programs?

How should Georgia allocate its resources for the greatest impact? How are the various services that provide financial aid structured and distributed (timing) to CFPL target populations?

How can the state reduce child abuse and improve experiences for children involved in the child welfare system?

Our Partners
Our partnerships are at the heart of our Lab. Our partners guide our questions, help us understand the context of the data, and commit to scaling evidence-based programs. We work collectively to answer questions that cannot be answered by one agency alone and empower research staff of our partner agencies to lead this work through advanced methodological training.
